UNIQUE ARTISAN PRODUCTS
Many of our tableware collection comes from Mosney, an area in Lancashire that was once habituated by the likes of Mosney Print Works which made great progress in cloth printing between 1780 to 1788.
In 1783, it was Thomas Bell of Mosney who invented and patented a new and somewhat ‘peculiar’ method of printing at the time, printing up to six colours at a time using copper plates.
Perceived by historians as an important invention for the finishing of fabrics, it paved the way towards modern day fabric printing and is considered as important a breakthrough as the Arkwright’s Spinning Jenny was to the manufacture of the base cloth.
These linen are made using local manufacturers, helping keep alive the famous mills of Lancashire.
